The Opportunity

A successful planning application for change of use allowed the vacant building to be brought back into occupation as high quality housing in South Manchester. The scheme delivered much needed homes for the build-to-rent sector, comprising a mix of studio, two- and three-bedroom apartments for long term rental.

The Challenges

Securing planning consent for the change of use and rooftop extension formed the initial challenge. The age and condition of the structure required careful management, including asbestos removal and the resolution of unforeseen issues during strip out. Limited space for storage, laydown and craneage meant deliveries and lifting operations required detailed coordination.

The Outcome

The project was completed successfully and proved popular within Manchester’s rental market.
