The Opportunity

TPI were appointed initially to advise on the design, procurement, construction and fit-out of the development. The project sought to create a contemporary entertainment venue within one of Camden’s most recognisable heritage buildings.

The Challenges

A major fire in January 2020 caused extensive damage to the KOKO auditorium, presenting a significant challenge to the project. TPI provided strategic advice to The Hope Lease Ltd on the direct appointment of a specialist heritage design team to work closely with Camden Council, heritage stakeholders, the incumbent main contractor and building insurers. This collaboration enabled the safe strip-out of fire-damaged areas, protection of retained features and the careful restoration of the historic structure.

The Outcome

The building was successfully restored and returned to use as an entertainment venue. TPI’s management ensured minimal programme delay and handled reinstatement costs effectively throughout the recovery and completion phases.
