The Opportunity
The project transformed Holst Hall, a disused assembly hall and performance space, into a study and social area for students. This space, once a tired transition area and the historic heart of the school, was revitalised to create a more functional environment. During the 12-week programme, nine existing classrooms were refurbished, and two new classrooms were constructed within the building through structural alterations.
The Challenges
The works had to be completed before students returned from the summer holidays, requiring a short and tightly managed programme. This involved extensive co-ordination with third-party suppliers to meet the strict deadline. The demands of working in an existing educational building were compounded by additional works and contract amendments added during the project.
The Outcome
The new Holst Hall was completed in time for the start of the school year. The space now features elephant steps, a rooflight replacement, and computer facilities, alongside modern finishes to the new and refurbished classrooms.
