The Opportunity
TPI was appointed to manage the construction of a new road and culverted bridge to connect two operational sites previously cut off from the wider estate by the Stonehouse Ditch. The works enabled vehicle access across previously inaccessible land near the Dartford Crossing. Key elements included diverting two major water mains and electrical services, constructing a culverted crossing, and replacing a damaged foul drain running beneath the live C2C railway line.
The Challenges
Delivering infrastructure in a live rail and river environment required extensive planning and permissions. TPI secured pre-commencement approvals from the Local Planning Authority, Asset Protection Agreements from Network Rail, and permits from the Environment Agency due to proximity to a main river. TPI also managed detailed survey works, including topographical and trackside asset surveys, to enable safe construction around complex infrastructure and utilities.
The Outcome
Completed in Autumn 2021, the works successfully reconnected key operational areas, providing critical access across previously separated land. The completed link road and culvert now support the long-term development and flexibility of the site, enabling future industrial and port-related growth.
